Mitch & Holly

Mitch and Holly met in their last year of high school at Avondale College, dated for a few months and went to the school ball together, but then broke up. They remained in the same circle of friends, and got together again (officially!) at a 2007/08 New Year Festival in the South Island. Five years later, on Uretiti Beach, Mitch got down on one knee and proposed.

Holly had admired Kumeu Valley Estate before, done her homework, and knew that it was likely to be the venue for her wedding. Holly loved Kumeu Valley Estate’s rustic style, aptly dubbed “Country Fair” by one of her Bridesdmaids, and if Holly needed further convincing, Kumeu Valley Estate also had the best wet weather option for the ceremony that she had seen, and she knew another couple who had married there and were really impressed by the staff.

Holly’s dress came from Rue De Seine in Newmarket and she would recommend this shop to anyone who is look for a vintage or boho style wedding dress. When it came to looking one’s best on the day, Holly chose Kaitlin Chapman Make-Up & Hair. “She was awesome!!! I chose her because all of her brides looked amazing, yet natural at the same time. They were not caked in make-up, but looked really fresh instead, which is exactly the look I was going for.”

Holly had this to say about her choice of Celebrant, “We chose Blake Northover, who created a really relaxed ceremony for us. There were lots of laughs in it, and it was very us. If you’re looking for a young, fun Celebrant whose not too lovey-dovey, Blake is great.”

Holly was delighted with the way the big day went at Kumeu Valley Estate, and had this to offer, “The staff at KVE were so lovely! They really were there to make every second as easy and enjoyable as possible. Our guests kept saying how professional they were – I don’t know much about hospo etiquette, but apparently it’s a really good thing that the waiting staff clear empty bottles and glasses while you’re at the buffet, and not while you’re sitting at your table, so I was glad my guests were impressed.”

When it came to the cake, Holly had three small single tier cakes from Bluebells Cakery. Each was a different pastel colour with buttercream frosting in different patterns. One was red velvet, the second lemon and the third vanilla. They were very ‘old fashioned sweet shop’ looking, and were both delicious, and very much admired.

The transport requirements for the Bridal Party were taken care of by a local Kumeu company, Glenmark Classics. Their classy vintage Jaguars and friendly drivers worked perfectly. The party was actually ahead of schedule, so the Bridal Party took a scenic and much enjoyed route to the venue. There was also a surprising number of options for accommodation, and Holly chose the cute and rustic Wild At Heart B&B, just out of Kumeu.

Holly and Mitch have some advice for those about to tie the knot. For Brides to be, Holly says “As much as you will think about it, always remember you can’t control the weather!!! Let every single person tell you that you look beautiful and accept it. You’ll never get 100 comments on how good you look any other day of your life!”. And Mitch has this for Grooms to be “Let your fiancé lead the way, she probably has way better ideas anyway!! And trust the KVE team because when you finally remember that thing you need to tell them – they’ve probably already got it sorted!”
